Chennai, Nov 5 (NationPress) Director Buchi Babu Sana has revealed the meaning behind 'Chikiri', the title of the much-anticipated single from his upcoming action film 'Peddi', starring Telugu superstar Ram Charan.
On Wednesday, the renowned A R Rahman, who is composing music for the film, shared a video on his X timeline featuring a discussion with director Buchi Babu Sana.
The Oscar-winning composer posted, "What is #CHIKIRI? Watch the video to find out! #ChikiriChikiri Sung by @_MohitChauhan #PEDDI GLOBAL RELEASE ON 27th MARCH, 2026. Mega Power Star @AlwaysRamCharan @NimmaShivanna #JanhviKapoor @BuchiBabuSana @RathnaveluDop @artkolla @NavinNooli."
In the clip shared by Rahman, Buchi Babu Sana explains how he was first introduced to Rahman's music by his brother during his seventh grade.
"When you agreed to compose for this film and allowed me to share the news, I wasn't sure who to tell first. So, I called my brother, who first introduced me to your music. When I asked where he was, he said he was bathing the buffaloes in the river. When I told him you agreed to score for my film, he 'beats well'," Buchi Babu Sana humorously recounts, eliciting laughter from Rahman.
Rahman responds, "When you approached me, I was genuinely touched by your passion, trust, and respect. Although I haven't worked on a straight Telugu film in a long time, I was excited to be part of this project."
Buchi Babu Sana elaborated on how the first track, 'Peddi's First Shot', became a massive hit and how he was now focused on the second song.
Rahman jokingly mentions, "You should be at the cricket ground, right? Why are you here?" To which Buchi Babu Sana cleverly replies, "This time, we aren't here to play; we're here for the song."
When Rahman inquires about the song's context, Buchi Babu Sana suggests, "We need to change the place." Rahman switches chairs with him, asking, "Is this place good?" Sana sheepishly clarifies, "I meant the location, sir, not the chairs. Nevertheless, I will describe the scene here. The hero sees the heroine for the first time in the village and tells his friend that she is that rare beauty who looks stunning without any makeup. He calls her a chikiri."
When Rahman asks what a Chikiri is, the director explains, "The men in the hero's village affectionately refer to the beautiful women there as Chikiri. That's where the song begins."
Meanwhile, sources indicate that the team is tirelessly working to keep the project on schedule. Ram Charan has undergone an incredible transformation for his role, while Janhvi Kapoor portrays a character named Achiyyamma. The impressive cast also features Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar in a significant supporting role, alongside Jagapathi Babu and Divyendu Sharma in pivotal parts.
With a highly talented technical team, 'Peddi' promises to deliver a rich cinematic experience. R Rathnavelu is responsible for cinematography, while National Award-winning editor Navin Nooli is in charge of the film's editing.
'Peddi' is set for a grand Pan-India theatrical release on March 27, 2026, coinciding with Ram Charan's birthday.
