Hyderabad, Nov 20 (NationPress) A significant catastrophe was narrowly avoided when a private travel bus collided with a chemical tanker in Telangana’s Mahabubnagar district on Thursday.
The incident caused a release of dense chemical fumes due to the leakage of Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) from the tanker, leading to widespread panic. This collision took place on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru national highway (NH 44) near Macharam in the Jadcherla mandal.
As per police reports, the sleeper bus operated by Jagan Travels struck the tanker from behind, resulting in the acid leak and the subsequent cloud of toxic fumes.
Passengers experienced a rush of fear but managed to evacuate safely through the emergency exit.
A police spokesperson noted that approximately 30-40 passengers were aboard the bus, and fortunately, there were no injuries reported. The travel company promptly arranged an alternative bus for the passengers.
Fire engines were swiftly dispatched to the scene to neutralize the fumes with water, and firefighting teams successfully contained the leak afterward.
