Cabinet Greenlights Establishment of 85 New Kendriya Vidyalayas and 28 Navodaya Vidyalayas

New Delhi, Dec 6 (NationPress) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sanctioned the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), an official reported on Friday.

The Cabinet Committee has also approved the creation of 28 Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs) in the districts that are currently without such facilities, under the Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme.

The projected requirement of funds for setting up the 85 new KVs and the expansion of one existing KV is around Rs 5,872.08 crore over a span of eight years, starting from 2025-26.

This amount includes a capital expenditure of approximately Rs 2,862.71 crore and an operational expenditure of about Rs 3,009.37 crore.

The estimated funds required for establishing the 28 NVs amounts to Rs 2,359.82 crore over five years from 2024-25 to 2028-29.

This total includes a capital expenditure of Rs 1,944.19 crore and an operational expenditure of Rs 415.63 crore.

Currently, there are 1,256 operational KVs, including three located abroad in Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran.

Approximately 13.56 lakh students are enrolled in these KVs.

As per the Ministry of Education, the administrative framework for executing the project will necessitate the creation of positions in line with the standards established by the KV Sangathan for managing a fully operational KV with a capacity of around 960 students.

This initiative is expected to benefit 82,560 students.

Following current guidelines, a fully operational Kendriya Vidyalaya provides employment for 63 individuals. Consequently, the approval of 85 new KVs and the expansion of one existing KV, which will introduce 33 new positions, will lead to the creation of 5,388 direct permanent jobs.

Moreover, construction and related activities linked to the enhancement of various facilities across all KVs are anticipated to create job opportunities for numerous skilled and unskilled laborers.

The government introduced the Scheme of Kendriya Vidyalayas in November 1962 to ensure uniform educational standards nationwide for the children of transferable Central Government/Defence employees.

Kendriya Vidyalayas primarily serve the educational needs of the children of both transferable and non-transferable Central Government employees, including those in Defence and Paramilitary forces, as well as children from transient populations and those living in remote or underdeveloped regions of the country, as per official reports.

In alignment with the National Education Policy 2020, nearly all Kendriya Vidyalayas have been designated as PM Shri schools, highlighting the execution of NEP 2020 and serving as model schools for others.

KVs are highly sought after due to their quality education, innovative teaching methods, and modern infrastructure.

The Ministry of Education has noted a consistent rise in the number of students applying for admission to Class I in KVs every year, and the performance of students from Kendriya Vidyalayas in the CBSE board examinations has consistently outperformed all other educational systems.
