New Delhi, Sep 18 (NationPress) Thursday turned into a lengthy session of interviews for the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) aimed at addressing seven openings in the senior men’s, senior women’s, and junior men’s national selection committees. Just last month, the BCCI had called for applications to fill two spots on the senior men’s committee, four on the senior women’s panel, and one on the junior men’s committee.
For the available senior men’s selectors roles, former Indian cricketers R.P. Singh, Pragyan Ojha, and Amay Khurasiya were among those interviewed. The chosen candidates will be tasked with succeeding the departing duo of S. Sharath (South Zone) and Subroto Banerjee (Central Zone).
While former pacer Praveen Kumar also expressed interest in joining the committee, it has been reported that he was prompted to apply at the last moment. Sources indicate that Pragyan Ojha is a strong candidate to take over Sharath's position from the South Zone, while a competition is emerging between Singh and Khurasiya for the Central Zone slot.
Sharath was also interviewed for the single vacancy in the junior men’s selection panel and is likely to step in for Thilak Naidu as the committee chairman ahead of the upcoming U19 World Cup next year. Sharath had previously served as the chief selector when India clinched the 2022 U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.
For the women’s selection roles, IANS reports that Amita Sharma, Sravanthi Naidu, Anagha Deshpande, and Diana David were interviewed. Additionally, former Indian player and coach Purnima Rao, along with Mamatha Maben, Rajani Venugopal, and Bindeshwari Goyal, are also in contention.
However, it remains unclear if their interviews took place on Thursday. There were discussions about former Indian captain Anjum Chopra applying for a position on the women's selection panel, but sources later confirmed that she did not submit an application.
The two-member CAC will provide its recommendations to the BCCI, with the final selections expected to be approved during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) at its Mumbai headquarters on September 28. This date will also mark the election of a new set of office bearers.
