Kolkata, Dec 18 (NationPress) The Calcutta High Court mandated a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the murder of a Trinamool Congress worker in Hooghly district from 2010 on Thursday. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had been investigating the case for an extended period, but due to a lack of significant progress, the case has now been transferred to the CBI.
The incident occurred during the guardian representative elections at Prosadpur High School in Hooghly's Jangipara area, where gunfire erupted. The then officer-in-charge of the Jangipara police station, Tapasbrati Chakraborty, has been implicated in this case.
It is claimed that he, in coordination with members of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), fatally shot Robin Ghosh, a Trinamool Congress worker, with a government-issued weapon.
Following the murder, the CID took over the investigation. The victim's family has expressed frustration over the lack of substantial developments in the case over the past 15 years, which occurred during the Left Front governance in the state.
As per the court's directives, a fresh investigation will commence, and all relevant documents will be transferred to CBI officials.
The family is optimistic that this renewed investigation will finally lead to meaningful outcomes.
Historically, the Calcutta High Court has assigned multiple cases to the CBI for investigation.
These include various issues, from post-poll violence following the last Assembly elections to the teachers’ recruitment scandal, with several probes initiated based on court orders.
In many instances, these central agency investigations have been linked to allegations of corruption and violence against the current Trinamool Congress government and its leaders. However, this investigation pertains to a case that transpired during the Left Front administration and involves the murder of a Trinamool Congress worker.
