Phnom Penh, Oct 10 (NationPress) In the initial nine months of 2025, Cambodia's exports reached approximately 22.39 billion US dollars, marking a significant increase of 12.9 percent from 19.83 billion dollars during the same timeframe last year, according to a report released by the General Department of Customs and Excise on Friday.
The report highlighted that the top five export markets for Cambodia are the United States, Vietnam, China, Japan, and Canada, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.
Key exported items include clothing, footwear, bags, travel essentials, bicycles, car tires, and promising agricultural products such as rice, rubber, cassava, cashew nuts, bananas, mangoes, and longans.
In contrast, Cambodia's total imports for the January-September period amounted to 24.61 billion dollars, reflecting an increase of 16.6 percent from 21.1 billion dollars in the previous year, the report noted.
Principal imports comprised oil and gas, raw materials for garments, footwear, bags, vehicles, machinery, electronic devices, pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods.
On Thursday, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth indicated that Cambodia is expected to achieve 5 percent economic growth in 2025, a decrease from 6 percent in 2024.
During the unveiling of the National Strategic Development Plan, Vissoth attributed the lower growth rate to adverse effects from border conflicts with Thailand and a 19-percent tariff levied by the United States on Cambodian exports.
This tariff was implemented on August 1, impacting all goods imported from Cambodia.
According to the deputy prime minister, the GDP per capita of the Southeast Asian nation is projected to reach nearly 3,000 US dollars in 2025, up from 2,713 dollars in 2024 and 2,520 dollars in 2023.
Cambodia's economy heavily relies on exports of garments, footwear, travel goods, tourism, agriculture, and real estate and construction.
A report from the Ministry of Economy and Finance forecasts that for 2025, the industrial sector, particularly garment and non-garment manufacturing and construction, is expected to grow by 7.1 percent; the services sector, especially tourism, transport, telecom, trade, and real estate, is projected to rise by 3.8 percent; and agriculture is anticipated to increase by 0.9 percent.
