Cambodia Generates 568 Million USD from Rubber Latex Exports in First 11 Months of 2024

Phnom Penh, Dec 12 (NationPress) Cambodia achieved $568 million in revenue from the export of natural rubber latex during the initial 11 months of 2024, reflecting a 26.7 percent rise compared to the same period last year, as reported officially on Thursday.

The nation exported 342,010 tonnes of rubber latex between January and November this year, representing a 2.34 percent increase from 334,177 tonnes in the corresponding timeframe of the previous year, as indicated by the report from the General Directorate of Rubber.

According to Khun Kakada, the Acting Director General of the General Directorate of Rubber, “A tonne of rubber latex was priced at an average of $1,662 during the first 11 months of 2024, which is approximately $319 higher than the average price during the same period last year.”

This Southeast Asian country primarily exports its rubber latex to Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, and China, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

Currently, Cambodia has cultivated rubber trees over a total area of 407,172 hectares, with 320,184 hectares (or 78.6 percent) of these trees being mature enough to be tapped, according to the report.

In the first ten months of this year, Cambodia accrued $472 million from rubber latex exports, which is a 22.5 percent increase compared to the previous year's figures for the same period.

During the January-October timeframe of this year, the country exported 291,269 tonnes of rubber latex, indicating a 2.6 percent rise over the same months last year, as per the report from the General Directorate of Rubber.

Natural latex is sourced from various flowering plants, including Hevea brasiliensis, commonly known as the 'rubber tree.' The milky white latex is found just beneath the bark of the tree and is extracted through meticulous tapping techniques refined over many years. In contrast, synthetic latex is manufactured entirely by human processes.
