The court additionally imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Loonker.
As per the CBI's press release, this case was initiated on July 11, 2012, after a complaint was lodged by a partner of a private firm.
During his tenure at the Rajkot office, Loonker was accused of soliciting a bribe of Rs 15,000 in exchange for approving an accident insurance claim for an injured employee.
“The CBI registered this case on July 11, 2012, citing allegations that Mahendra A Loonker, then Senior Divisional Manager at Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd. in Rajkot, demanded and accepted an illegal bribe of Rs 15,000 from a complainant, who is a partner in a private company, to facilitate the processing of an accident insurance claim related to the injury of his employee,” the CBI stated.
Loonker was apprehended on the same day the FIR was registered, after evidence of the bribe was uncovered.
Following this, searches were conducted at his home and office in Rajkot. The investigators submitted a chargesheet on December 3, 2012, against him for accepting illicit gratification and engaging in criminal misconduct as a public servant.
After reviewing the evidence and considering arguments from both parties, the court found Loonker guilty and rendered its verdict accordingly.
