Chandigarh, March 18 (NationPress) In a shocking event, a 31-year-old real estate broker was fatally shot in broad daylight outside a gym in Chandigarh's affluent Sector 9 on Wednesday, causing a wave of panic among locals.

This marks the second shooting incident in under 24 hours in Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana.

Charanpreet Singh, a resident of New Chandigarh, was targeted by two men on a motorcycle who opened fire at close range, inflicting serious injuries and subsequently fleeing the scene.

Having arrived at the Body Zone gym, Charanpreet was about to enter his vehicle parked nearby when the attackers unleashed at least eight rounds towards him, as reported by initial police sources.

He suffered numerous gunshot wounds, notably to his arm and torso, collapsing inside his car. Eyewitnesses recounted that he slumped over the driver's seat right after the shots rang out. Despite being hurried to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) by his companions, he tragically succumbed to blood loss en route.

The motive behind this heinous act remains unclear, with police speculating that it might be tied to personal or business disputes.

Earlier, on Tuesday night, assailants entered the premises of Panjab University on a motorcycle, firing two shots into the air near the Department of Botany and threatening a former student leader who happened to be there.

This incident is suspected to be gang-related. The perpetrators escaped the scene after stealing a motorcycle at gunpoint.

Multiple police teams and forensic specialists quickly arrived at the scene. CCTV footage captured in and around Panjab University revealed four suspects fleeing, leading police to expand their search operations.

Following the incident on Tuesday, gangster Doni Bal and his associate Shaganpreet, believed to be affiliated with the Bambiha gang, allegedly took to social media to claim responsibility for targeting the SOPU student leader and issued threats of violence against anyone who might join the group.

Point of View
