Earlier, on Tuesday night, assailants entered the premises of Panjab University on a motorcycle, firing two shots into the air near the Department of Botany and threatening a former student leader who happened to be there.
This incident is suspected to be gang-related. The perpetrators escaped the scene after stealing a motorcycle at gunpoint.
Multiple police teams and forensic specialists quickly arrived at the scene. CCTV footage captured in and around Panjab University revealed four suspects fleeing, leading police to expand their search operations.
Following the incident on Tuesday, gangster Doni Bal and his associate Shaganpreet, believed to be affiliated with the Bambiha gang, allegedly took to social media to claim responsibility for targeting the SOPU student leader and issued threats of violence against anyone who might join the group.
