Jaipur, Dec 3 (NationPress) Chandigarh University secured an impressive nine out of ten gold medals in canoe and kayaking on Wednesday, propelling them to the top of the standings after Day 10 of the Khelo India University Games Rajasthan 2025. The university also earned a gold medal in men’s table tennis, elevating Guru Nanak Dev University to second place with an overall tally of 33 gold, 13 silver, and nine bronze medals.
Additionally, four meet records were broken at the athletics venue located inside the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur for the second consecutive day.
The fifth edition of KIUG 2025 is being conducted across seven cities in Rajasthan, featuring a remarkable 4,448 athletes from 222 universities competing in 23 medal events. The Games are organized under the supervision of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in partnership with the Rajasthan State Sports Council and are hosted by Poornima University.
Tongbram Roshan Singh from Guru Kashi University won the canoe single 500m race, preventing a clean sweep by Chandigarh University in Udaipur.
On Wednesday, much of the excitement in Jaipur revolved around the athletics track, providing an exhilarating day of competition.
Participants from Panjab University (men’s 4x400m), Shintomon CB (men’s 110m hurdles) from Mahatma Gandhi University, Sanya Yadav (women’s Discus Throw) from Guru Kashi University, and Aleena T Saji (women’s Triple Jump) of Mahatma Gandhi University broke meet records, bringing the total number of records shattered in this edition of Khelo India University Games to nine.
The men’s 4x400m final was particularly thrilling, with Mumbai University leading until the last 100m, when Panjab University’s Lokesh Singh Gurjar overtook Yash Joshi to secure the gold with a time of 3:12.40s. Notably, Mumbai University also clocked a time of 3:12.73s, surpassing the previous meet record of 3:13.44s held by Mangalore University.
Earlier, Shintomon CB dominated the men’s 110m final, outperforming former KIUG record holder Vikas Khodke and All India University record holder Rahil Sakeer VP from the University of Calicut.
Khodke, who previously held the KIUG record of 14.40s, secured silver in a close photo finish with Rahil Sakeer, both finishing with a time of 14.52s.
In field events, Sanya Yadav from Guru Kashi University broke the KIUG meet record in women’s Discus Throw with a distance of 50.73m on her second attempt, surpassing the earlier record of 50.60m set by Shalini Chaudhary of Barkatullah University.
Both medalists in the women’s Triple Jump also surpassed the previous KIUG record on Wednesday, with Aleena achieving a jump of 13.09m on her second attempt and Arshdeep Kaur from Panjab University clearing 12.80m on her fourth attempt.
The previous record of 12.78m was held by Aishwarya B from Mangalore University.
Meanwhile, at the Jagatpura shooting range, Sarabjot Singh, a bronze medallist from the Paris Olympics, teamed up with Palak to win the gold in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event, defeating Mukesh Nelavalli and Dwaram Pranavi from KLEF University with a score of 17-15. Guru Nanak Dev University claimed the bronze medal.
In the women’s football final at the Poornima University ground, Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani, triumphed over Guru Nanak Dev University with a score of 2-0, thanks to goals from Pooja (10th minute) and Nancy (83rd minute). Notably, Nancy scored the winning goal for her team in both the semi-final and against Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar.
Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology achieved their first-ever women’s hockey gold in the history of the Khelo India University Games, defeating ITM University, Gwalior with a score of 1-0 in the final, thanks to a goal by Aliva Jate in the 34th minute.
In the men’s hockey final, Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya outplayed Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith with a score of 5-1.
In Jodhpur, Chitkara University fell short of completing a grand double in table tennis. While their women’s team defeated Adamas University 3-0, their men’s team, after leading 2-0, lost 2-3 against Chandigarh University in the finals.
Additionally, the Fit India Zone, established at Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur since the opening day of KIUG 2025, has created an engaging and interactive experience for attendees. The Zone includes three main attractions: a dynamic Fitness Challenge Zone with exciting prizes, a dedicated Cycling Zone, and comprehensive Physical & Mental Fitness Assessments conducted by Abhinav Bindra Target Performance.
On Wednesday, the Fit India initiative hosted a press conference featuring Dr. Neeraj K Pawan, Secretary of Youth Affairs & Sports for the Government of Rajasthan, who announced the launch of the Khelo Rajasthan initiative, aligning with the vision of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a healthier nation. Dr. Pawan also stated that SMS Stadium will transition to a no-vehicle zone, with cycling as the sole mode of transport within the complex.
