“I have been honored by around 70 organizations from Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal,” Hembram remarked. “Addressing the challenges of tribal community development and educational outreach remains my foremost priority.”
His life's mission to uplift tribal communities has been guided by his mentor, the pioneering Santali writer and educator Pandit Raghunath Murmu.
As the nation prepares to celebrate the 77th Republic Day, the Union government has announced the prestigious Padma Awards for 2026. Among the recipients, four notable individuals from Odisha have been honored with the Padma Shri, a moment of great pride for the state.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officially disclosed that Charan Hembram, renowned linguist and folklorist Mahendra Kumar Mishra, and esteemed artists Seemanchal Patro and Sarat Kumar Patra are among those receiving the nation's fourth-highest civilian award.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi extended his congratulations to all awardees, expressing pride in Hembram’s and Mishra’s contributions to literature and education, as well as Patra’s and Patro’s contributions to the arts. In his message on X, he stated, “The recognition of these individuals from Odisha is a significant honor for our state. Their achievements have brought a new identity to Odisha’s arts and culture on a national platform. I wish them continued success and pray for their bright futures.”
