Los Angeles, Sep 18 (NationPress) American actor and writer Charlie Sheen shared insights into the challenges faced by 'Friends' star Matthew Perry in the months leading up to his tragic passing in 2023.
During a recent appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Charlie discussed his observations from 2022 when Matthew was actively promoting his memoir, 'Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing'.
The 'Two and a Half Men' star remarked that he noticed signs indicating that Matthew was not sober while discussing his book, which focuses on themes of sobriety and recovery.
“I felt genuinely concerned for him. Listening to a segment of the audiobook, I noticed he lacked the precise, sharp diction he typically possessed, delivering comedy or other material with such skill. It was clear to me that he was … struggling,” the 60-year-old actor elaborated.
Charlie expressed his sorrow for not reaching out sooner to Matthew. Although he admitted they weren't close, he said, “I didn’t know Matthew that well. I read his book in a day and found it inspiring. I wanted to connect, especially since he mentioned me in his book, stating, ‘Eff Charlie Sheen and I’m going to be that famous one day too.’ Sadly, I didn’t reach out, and I believe he passed away just three weeks after I finished reading it.”
He also noted that he could empathize with Matthew’s battles with addiction, saying, “I could sense that sort of prison he had built for himself.”
For those unaware, Matthew was discovered deceased at his home in Los Angeles in October 2023 at the age of 54. The toxicology report indicated that the '17 Again' actor succumbed to the “acute effects of ketamine.”
