Colombo, May 3 (NationPress) A Sri Lankan Airlines flight traveling from Chennai to Colombo was subjected to a detailed security examination upon its arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport on Saturday afternoon following an alleged tip-off from Indian intelligence agencies suggesting that individuals associated with the Pahalgam terror attack might be on board.
According to reports from Sri Lanka's Daily Mirror, Flight UL 122, operated by aircraft 4R-ALS, landed in Colombo at 11:59 hrs today and was subjected to a thorough security check. This process was conducted in collaboration with local authorities after an alert from the Chennai Area Control Centre regarding a suspect sought in India who was thought to be on the flight.
The aircraft was permitted to continue its operations following a meticulous inspection, although the essential security measures led to a delay for the next scheduled service.
Local sources revealed that the search operation was a joint effort by the Sri Lanka Police, Sri Lanka Air Force, and airport security teams. Fortunately, no suspects were identified during the examination.
The tragic Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 resulted in 26 innocent lives lost, as four terrorists, including two from Pakistan, targeted civilians based on their religious identity.
In response, India announced on Saturday a suspension of the exchange of inbound mail and parcels from Pakistan via air and surface routes, following an earlier ban on all imports and a prohibition on Pakistani-flagged vessels from entering Indian ports.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated the nation's steadfast commitment to combat terrorism and those who harbor it.
During a joint press briefing with Angolan President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco, Modi expressed, "We stand united against terrorism. I extend my gratitude to President Lourenco and the Angolan people for their condolences regarding the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack."
"We are dedicated to implementing robust and decisive measures against terrorists and their supporters. We appreciate Angola’s backing in our struggle against terrorism," the Prime Minister concluded.
