Raipur, Nov 29 (NationPress) In the Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh, the village of Achholi in Dongargarh is presenting a remarkable instance of women’s empowerment through agricultural innovation.
Thanks to the Central government's Namo Drone Didi initiative, women are now leveraging drone technology to spray nano urea and pesticides on their fields, modernizing farming practices and enhancing the economic status of rural women.
Leading this change is Shanti Vishwakarma, affectionately called 'Drone Didi', who has become a vital support system for local farmers and a beacon of self-reliance.
This initiative equips women with specialized training in drone operation, opening new avenues for income. The use of drone spraying not only conserves time and labor but also reduces costs while ensuring optimal application of agricultural inputs.
The contributions of Shanti Vishwakarma and other Drone Didis are progressively transforming agricultural methodologies in the district.
Shanti charges Rs 300 per acre for spraying rice fields, with varying rates for different crops.
The increasing demand for these specialized services has significantly boosted her income, earning her the title of 'Lakhpati Didi'.
She is actively assisting other rural women in joining the initiative and pursuing similar career paths.
Supported by both Central and state governments, Shanti has received equipment valued at approximately Rs 15 lakh, which includes a drone worth Rs 10 lakh and a vehicle valued at Rs 5 lakh. This vehicle enables her to travel throughout the district to provide drone-spraying services.
The Drone Didi scheme aims to increase women's participation in agriculture while promoting the adoption of modern technology.
Shanti's success in Achholi demonstrates that with proper training and institutional support, rural women can lead the way in agricultural modernization.
In an interview with IANS, Shanti shared that she has been part of a women's self-help group for about 15 years and currently holds the position of president.
"Our group learned about the drone-pilot training program. After discussions, I was selected. Previously, I operated a small pickle and papad business. I completed a 15-day training in Gwalior, and at a public event, I received the keys to the drone. I have been active for the past two years, receiving numerous orders, aided by my YouTube channel. My family fully supports my work, and I typically get spraying jobs for 10 to 20 acres daily," she stated.
Shanti expressed her appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiating programs that promote women's self-reliance, adding that the Chhattisgarh government has also launched various welfare initiatives that have created job opportunities for women, both at home and in the workforce.
