Chicago, May 10 (NationPress) Veer Chotrani of India has successfully advanced to the second round of the Squash World Championships for the first time, achieving a significant upset over former World No.15 Declan James.
Chotrani, who secured his spot in the tournament by winning the Asia qualifying event, triumphed with a score of 3-1 (11-9, 9-11, 12-10, 16-14), marking a memorable debut in the World Championships.
The World No.57 came close to a fifth game against the Englishman, having four match balls that he couldn't convert. Nevertheless, Chotrani succeeded on the fifth attempt to clinch the victory.
“It’s a huge relief! Last week, I faced (Mohamad) Zakaria in Bermuda and had four match balls but faltered and lost,” he remarked.
“That previous match lingered in my mind as I held a match ball, and I reminded myself not to let it slip away this time. I maintained my focus and fought hard to secure the win.”

“We had some long rallies, and she’s a formidable opponent. I’ve watched her in recent tournaments, and she’s been performing exceptionally well, having broken into the top 30, so I anticipated a tough battle,” she said.
“It was incredibly exhausting, but I’m delighted to have made it through.”
