Mumbai, Dec 21 (NationPress) In a remarkable display of talent, top seeds Joshna Chinappa and Veer Chotrani triumphed in the women’s and men’s singles events respectively, showcasing their skills during the finals of the 80th CCI Western India Squash Tournament held at the historic Cricket Club of India (CCI) courts on Sunday.
In the women’s championship, the 39-year-old Chinappa demonstrated her prowess with a thrilling come-from-behind victory against second-seed Sanya Vats. After losing the first game, the seasoned player intensified her performance and secured the win with scores of 7-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-5, highlighting her vast experience in high-pressure situations.
“Competing at the CCI since I was 12 makes this victory incredibly special. Winning this title fills me with pride,” expressed Chinappa, celebrating her fifth title win, the last being in the 2007-08 season.
Conversely, the men’s final showcased a different narrative, as Chotrani delivered a dominating performance against second seed Suraj Chand, winning decisively with scores of 11-9, 11-9, 11-2. This victory marks Chotrani's second title at this esteemed tournament, having previously won in the 2022–23 season.
“Having trained here since I was seven gives this venue a special significance due to its rich history. It's an honor to join the ranks of past champions,” stated Chotrani after his victory.
