Hyderabad, July 10 (NationPress) The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Telangana Police has apprehended key officials of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) including its president, treasurer, CEO, and two additional individuals for forgery, cheating, and misappropriation of funds.
The CID announced the arrests on Thursday, which include HCA president A. Jagan Mohan Rao, treasurer C.J. Srinivasa Rao, CEO Sunil Kante, general secretary of Sri Chakra Cricket Club Rajendra Yadav, and president of Chakra Cricket Club G. Kavitha.
As stated by Additional DGP of CID, Charu Sinha, this case involves forgery of documents aimed at deception and the misappropriation of funds along with a criminal breach of trust by the suspects.
The CID initiated a criminal case on June 9 following a complaint from Dharam Guruva Reddy, General Secretary of the Telangana Cricket Association (TCA), under sections 465, 468, 471, 403, 409, and 420 r/w 34 IPC.
Additional DGP Sinha remarked, “Based on the investigation and evidence collected by CID personnel, it has come to light that A. Jagan Mohan Rao, in collaboration with C. Rajender Yadav and his wife G. Kavitha, fabricated documents for Sri Chakra Cricket Club, which was misrepresented as Gowlipura Cricket Club by forging the signature of C. Krishna Yadav, the President of Gowlipura Cricket Club. These fraudulent documents were presented as authentic, allowing A. Jagan Mohan Rao to gain wrongful entry into HCA as President.”
“Moreover, Jagan Mohan Rao, in conjunction with other accused persons, including C.J. Srinivas Rao, Treasurer, and Sunil Kante, CEO of HCA, acted with malicious intent, leading to the misappropriation of public funds, unlawfully restraining IPL SRH officials, and making claims of intimidation and blackmail over complimentary tickets and access to corporate boxes, coupled with threats of severe repercussions,” she added.
Concerns regarding ticket irregularities were raised during the IPL 2025 season at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
HCA officials reportedly pressured IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for additional tickets, including those for personal resale.
SRH accused Rao of intimidation, coercion, and blackmail regarding complimentary tickets and corporate boxes.
Following SRH’s warning to move out of Hyderabad, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy mandated an inquiry by the Vigilance Commission.
The Telangana Vigilance Commission reportedly substantiated the allegations made by SRH against HCA officials and proposed actions against them.
A. Jagan Mohan Rao was elected as HCA president in October 2023. He has a history of founding the Akshara Educational Society in 2010, which operates six schools, along with establishing two NGOs aimed at enhancing educational access and creating job opportunities.
His experience extends to serving as president and general secretary of the Handball Federation of India, chairman of the Premier Handball League, and president of the Telangana Handball Association.
