Hyderabad, July 10 (NationPress) Former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin has demanded a comprehensive investigation into the operations of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and the dissolution of its current leadership. This follows the resignation of its president, A. Jagan Mohan Rao, who was apprehended by the CID concerning the IPL tickets scandal.
Azhar, who has previously held the presidency of HCA, expressed grave concerns over the IPL tickets controversy and the pervasive corruption within the HCA, stating that the existing administration has not fulfilled its responsibilities effectively.
"I am profoundly troubled by the ongoing IPL ticket fraud and the widespread corruption in the Hyderabad Cricket Association. The current HCA leadership has failed to uphold its duties and must be held accountable," Azharuddin remarked in a post on X.
"I call for immediate measures, a detailed investigation, and the disbandment of the current HCA administration. It's time to cleanse the system and restore integrity to Hyderabad cricket," he added.
The inquiry into the IPL ticket scandal intensified with the arrest of HCA president Jagan Mohan Rao on Wednesday.
The Telangana CID detained Rao following a report from the Vigilance and Enforcement Wing that outlined alleged irregularities within the HCA.
The state government initiated an inquiry into the HCA's operations after Sunrisers Hyderabad raised serious concerns against the cricket body. This investigation uncovered significant irregularities and recommended disciplinary action against the HCA leadership.
The management of Sunrisers Hyderabad previously threatened to move the IPL franchise to another city after the HCA administration locked certain corporate boxes due to a dispute over complimentary tickets for the state body. The boxes were only unlocked after SRH conceded to the demands of HCA officials.
According to the investigation's findings, SRH had already been providing 10% of match tickets free of charge to HCA as per established protocols. In spite of this, the HCA secretary allegedly requested an additional 10%, which SRH declined. The report further indicated that HCA president A. Jagan Mohan Rao made a similar demand for extra tickets for personal use. Following SRH's refusal, he reportedly retaliated by imposing logistical hurdles.
