Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday, 24 August paid tribute to Sant Shiromani Guru Ravidas on his 650th birth anniversary, pledging that the saint's teachings of equality and dignity would be carried to every household in the capital. Speaking at the Samrasta Sankalp Abhiyan and Pavitra Maati Kalash Distribution programme at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi, she called the outreach the truest expression of social harmony.

The Samrasta Sankalp Yatra and Its Delhi Leg

Chief Minister Gupta said the Samrasta Sankalp Yatra — a campaign tracing its origins to the holy city of Varanasi — has now arrived in Delhi and will extend to all districts of the capital. The yatra, she noted, was launched in alignment with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a structured effort to bring Sant Ravidas's philosophy to ordinary citizens across the country.

She expressed hope that the sacred soil distributed through the Pavitra Maati Kalash would reach every home and settlement in Delhi, serving as a tangible link to the saint's blessings and social teachings.

Significance of the Sacred Soil

Gupta described the soil contained in the kalash as far more than earth. 'The sacred soil is not merely earth but a symbol of Sant Ravidas Ji's thoughts, his lifelong social work and his guidance to humanity,' she said. The distribution is intended to make the 650th birth anniversary a moment of collective reflection on ideals of equality and brotherhood, rather than a ceremonial occasion alone.

Core Message: Equality and Social Harmony

The Chief Minister underlined what she called the central tenet of Sant Ravidas's teachings — that no individual in society is lesser or greater than another, and that every person deserves equal opportunity and respect. She linked these values to the Modi government's governing philosophy of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas', arguing that the two frameworks reinforce each other.

The Delhi government, she added, is committed to translating these principles into policy — ensuring equal opportunities and dignity for every resident. She said a robust spirit of social harmony would form the bedrock of India's journey toward becoming a developed nation.

The programme was attended by several senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) figures, including BJP national president Nitin Nabin, BJP SC Morcha national president Shivesh Kumar Ram, BJP national vice-president Lal Singh, Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra, and former national general secretary Dushyant Gautam, among others. The gathering underscored the political significance the ruling party has attached to the anniversary outreach.
