Tikamgarh development roadmap: CM Mohan Yadav orders jobs push via local skills
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday, 21 August directed district officials to draft a comprehensive development roadmap for Tikamgarh that channels the district's natural resources, traditional crafts, and agricultural and livestock potential into tangible employment and income for its residents. The directive came during his 'Mukhyamantri Jan-Vishwas Abhiyan' visit to the district.
Key Directives from the CM
Chairing a District Development Advisory Committee meeting, Chief Minister Yadav emphasised that local products and traditional skills must be developed in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Vocal for Local' principle, with the aim of securing wider national and international markets. He stressed that the development blueprint must be grounded in Tikamgarh's specific needs, available resources, and inputs from public representatives and other stakeholders.
'Every district has its own resources, skills and possibilities. These local strengths must be converted into economic opportunities so that the youth can get better avenues for employment and self-employment,' CM Yadav said at the meeting.
Boost for Artisans and Animal Husbandry
The Chief Minister called for dedicated support to traditional artisans, particularly craftspeople engaged in brass idol-making, by forging stronger market linkages and integrating their skills into broader economic networks. He also urged officials to identify successful local innovations and implement them systematically to accelerate economic activity across the district.
On the livestock front, Yadav directed officials to expand the cooperative system to include more milk producers and cattle rearers, and to promote high-quality cattle breeding and breed improvement in gaushalas. 'Animal husbandry should become a profitable activity alongside agriculture. The availability of high-quality heifers will benefit cattle rearers and help increase their income,' he said.
Tourism and Religious Heritage as Economic Levers
The meeting also spotlighted Tikamgarh's religious and tourism potential, with particular attention to Kundeshwar Dham. Officials were asked to link tourism development directly to local employment creation and economic opportunity, treating heritage assets as engines of livelihood rather than passive attractions.
The District Development Advisory Committee is mandated to submit recommendations covering industry, trade, agriculture, water-body conservation, exports, minerals, environment, and employment as part of the district's long-term development plan.
Official Suspended Over Cooperative Bank Complaint
During the visit, Chief Minister Yadav also heard grievances filed through the CM Helpline. Acting on a complaint that the Mavai branch of a cooperative bank had failed to transfer funds to the nominee's account following the death of Ranibai, mother of complainant Dayaram Lodhi, Yadav ordered the suspension of District Registrar (Cooperatives) S.K. Kaushik for alleged negligence. The swift action signals that accountability measures are accompanying the development push.
With a formal roadmap now in the works, the focus shifts to execution — and whether Tikamgarh's brass artisans, farmers, and livestock keepers will see tangible gains before the next electoral cycle.
