Thiruvananthapuram, June 24 (NationPress) Renowned Congress figure and former president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), K. Muraleedharan, stated on Tuesday that the party's high command will determine whether any action should be taken against Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha representative Shashi Tharoor for his recent comments labeling Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “prime asset for India.”
Muraleedharan, a seasoned politician with experience in both the Lok Sabha and the Kerala Assembly, is the son of the iconic Congress leader K. Karunakaran.
“It’s quite frustrating and bothersome to hear admiration directed toward our political opponents. Tharoor's remarks made on a pivotal election day, where he claimed he was neither invited nor informed about the election campaigning for the significant Nilambur by-election, were in poor taste,” he expressed.
“As a member of the CWC, it is up to the party's high command to assess if any consequences should be imposed on him,” Muraleedharan added.
Tharoor, who spearheaded the ruling BJP's anti-terrorism diplomatic mission to the US, Brazil, and three additional countries last month following Operation Sindoor, has advocated for increased support for Prime Minister Modi's “energy, dynamism, and willingness to engage (with other nations),” deeming it “a prime asset for India on the international stage.”
On Monday, Tharoor also conveyed his best wishes to Aryadan Shoukath, the Congress candidate who emerged victorious.
A perceived “rift” between the Congress high command and Tharoor has been evident since he opted to run for the presidency against Mallikarjun Kharge, resulting in criticism from numerous Congress leaders in Kerala.
Despite not being included in the roster of Congress leaders submitted to the Union government for the Operation Sindhoor initiative, Tharoor was personally invited by PM Modi to lead the delegation to the US and other nations.
Upon his return, Tharoor acknowledged an ongoing difference in views between himself and the Congress high command, stating he is prepared to meet with them and clarify his stance if requested.
A four-time winner since 2009, Tharoor has established a record for the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency.
