Thiruvananthapuram, June 19 (NationPress) MP Shashi Tharoor, representing Thiruvananthapuram, has openly stated his differences with the Congress leadership on several matters but emphasized his commitment to the party. "I was not here recently due to the passing of our senior leader Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, and I am heading there now. I won't address your specific inquiries as I am aware of what you wish to ask," Tharoor remarked, following his return from leading an all-party delegation to a five-nation outreach initiative, including visits to the US and Brazil under the 'Operation Sindoor' diplomatic program.
"Indeed, I have differences of opinion with the Congress leadership, and that is well-known. Some issues are public, and I will discuss them directly with them, responding if they approach me. I’m not leaving... I am a loyal Congressman," he stated.
Tharoor has encountered criticism from the Congress regarding his acceptance of an invitation from the government to lead an Operation Sindoor delegation, as the party did not endorse his participation, along with his commendations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly concerning his administration's actions against cross-border terrorism.
When questioned about his absence from campaigning for the Congress candidate in the significant Nilambur assembly by-election taking place on Thursday, Tharoor curtly replied, "I was not invited to it."
Fellow party member Rajmohan Unnithan sharply responded to Tharoor's comments, stating that "what's happening in Nilambur is not a wedding that requires invitations."
According to Unnithan, "In the Congress party, leaders inform their availability to the campaign committee, which determines the campaign assignments, and no formal invitations are sent to any Congress leaders." He is also known for his sharp remarks, adding, "For some time, Tharoor's mind seems to be with PM Modi while his body remains with the Congress party. Everyone except Tharoor knows his direction. He shows no loyalty to anyone but himself and often forgets how he arrived at his current position after joining Congress."
