Did Rajasthan's Congress MLA Cause a Stir in the Assembly with Abusive Language?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Feb 4 (NationPress) The discussion surrounding the Governor’s address in the Rajasthan Assembly on Wednesday was marked by intense exchanges, controversial statements, and frequent interruptions, as members of both the ruling and opposition parties clashed on topics such as unemployment and tribal rights.
Former minister and Congress MLA Shanti Dhariwal ignited controversy during the discussion by resorting to abusive language while addressing the issue of youth unemployment and skill development.
Dhariwal emphasized that if millions of youth are not equipped with essential skills, the burgeoning youth population could pose a significant challenge for the nation.
In a sarcastic retort, Government Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg remarked, without specifying anyone, “Everyone in this country has found employment except for one young man.”
Dhariwal responded, claiming he could only comprehend half of what Garg was asserting. During this back-and-forth, Dhariwal's use of inappropriate language in the House was noted.
When Dhariwal finished his address, the Chief Whip raised an objection, asserting that Dhariwal had once again resorted to inappropriate language and called for it to be removed from the official records.
The Speaker ruled that the offensive remarks should be expunged from the official proceedings. It is noteworthy that Dhariwal had previously faced backlash for similar comments and had issued an apology to the House.
During the same discussion, Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) MLA Anil Katara from Chaurasi accused the government of neglecting tribal communities and demanded the establishment of a separate Bhil state.
Katara claimed that despite the government’s assertions of being a “double-engine government,” tribal forests were being ravaged, lands forcibly taken, and hills exploited for mining. He also argued that recruitments were not being conducted according to reservation norms.
“If the tribal community continues to be insulted and overlooked, then our only recourse will be to demand a Bhil state,” Katara remarked, stating that the movement would transition from the streets to the Assembly.
Congress MLA Ramila Khadiya also made pointed allegations during the discussion, accusing the Tribal Area Development (TAD) Minister of making arbitrary decisions. She claimed that coordinators were dismissed without notice and were not reinstated even after judicial intervention.
Khadiya further accused the minister of nepotism in appointments, alleging that individuals from outside the TSP area were being appointed in tribal regions due to the influence of relatives. She also raised concerns regarding the delayed salaries of teachers and the allegedly subpar nutrition provided at Anganwadi centers.
In response to the allegations, the TAD Minister announced that a committee would be established under Khadiya’s chairmanship to address the issues raised.
Earlier in the day, during Question Hour and Zero Hour, the House experienced several confrontations between the treasury benches and the opposition.
UDH Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra also engaged in a heated debate with opposition members over questions regarding homeless families and the PM Awas Yojana. Due to ongoing disruptions and uproar, the Assembly proceedings were ultimately adjourned until 11 AM on Thursday.
