Congress Restructures Manipur Leadership with New Political Affairs Committee Ahead of Assembly Elections

New Delhi/Imphal, March 20 (NationPress) Following the appointment of a new state President and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in February, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced the formation of a Political Affairs Committee on Friday. This committee includes four Vice-Presidents and twelve General Secretaries for the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
A Congress official in Imphal indicated that this strategic move aims to bolster the party's structure in preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections next year, leading to the establishment of the Political Affairs Committee along with the appointments of new Vice-Presidents and General Secretaries.
According to a press release from All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, the Political Affairs Committee comprises prominent figures such as Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, state President Okram Ibobi Singh, and CLP leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh, alongside several senior members from the state unit.
Additionally, leaders of the Congress's frontal organizations in the state will serve as ex officio members of this committee.
The newly appointed Vice-Presidents are Vidyapati Senjam, L. Tilotama, Hareshwar Goshwami, and Mohammad Amin Shah.
The list of General Secretaries includes S. Manaoton Singh, Jeeten Singh, Amir Hussaain, H. Meghachandra Mangangcha, Th Sokho George, Seram Niken Singh, Ksh Kennedy Singh, Chawngbiak Thomte, John Panmei, Rabi Khan, and Ningthoujam Popilal Singh.
In February, the Congress President announced a significant organizational restructuring in the state, naming a new state President, Working Presidents, Treasurer, Leader, and Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislature Party, along with the Chairpersons for the Election and Campaign Committees of the MPCC.
Okram Ibobi Singh, a former three-time Chief Minister, has been appointed as the President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee.
Keisham Meghachandra Singh, the previous state President, has been designated as the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), and K. Ranjit has been appointed as the Deputy CLP leader.
Former MLAs Victor Keishing and Manga Vaiphei will serve as Working Presidents of the MPCC, with Victor being the son of former Chief Minister Rishang Keishing.
Fajur Rahim, a former MLA, has been appointed as the Treasurer of the MPCC.
Th Lokeshwar Singh, a former Assembly Speaker and MLA, has been named as the Chairperson of the Campaign Committee, while Moirangthem Okendro, a former MPCC President and minister, will chair the Election Committee.
The AICC release noted that the party “recognizes the contributions” of the outgoing state President Keisham Meghachandra Singh.
Prior to the organizational changes in February, Okram Ibobi Singh had also served as the CLP leader.
