Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 17 (NationPress) A new controversy has erupted surrounding the Kerala CPM as a businessman from Chennai has accused Shyam, the son of state secretary M.V. Govindan, of leaking a sensitive complaint that was submitted to the party’s Politburo.
The businessman, Muhammad Sharshad, revealed that he had filed a complaint highlighting purported illegal financial dealings involving certain CPM leaders. He alleges that the documents he provided were leaked and subsequently appeared as evidence in a defamation lawsuit initiated by London-based businessman Rajesh Krishna.
Sharshad asserts that Shyam was the one who transmitted the documents to Rajesh, possibly due to external pressure. He further claimed that the party’s leadership neglected his repeated appeals. Notably, while Rajesh received an invitation to the CPM party congress in Madurai, he was ultimately asked to withdraw following Sharshad's objections.
In his correspondence with the Politburo, Sharshad accused Rajesh of funneling unaccounted money into the bank accounts of CPM leaders. After the documents were leaked, Rajesh filed a defamation suit in the Delhi High Court, claiming that false accusations against him had been disseminated.
During a press briefing on Sunday, Sharshad informed reporters that both the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Income Tax Department are currently investigating his allegations regarding the suspected illicit financial movements from Rajesh Krishna’s accounts. He contended that Rajesh exploited his leaked complaint to fortify his defense in the defamation case, facilitated by the involvement of Govindan’s son.
The allegations have provoked a strong reaction from the Opposition. V.D. Satheesan, the Leader of the Opposition, called for a public clarification from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, accusing the CPM state committee of intentionally concealing Sharshad’s complaint. He emphasized the need to disclose the identities of all CPM leaders allegedly connected to the financial transactions with Rajesh.
As the allegations continue to escalate, the CPM leadership is facing increasing pressure to provide a response, while the accusations against Govindan’s son have cast a new shadow over the party's integrity.
