Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 22 (NationPress) A significant cache of crude bombs was uncovered at a hotel owned by a Trinamool Congress leader situated in the Bolpur region of West Bengal's Birbhum district, according to police reports on Sunday.
Authorities from two police precincts executed an overnight operation at the establishment owned by Babu Das, who is the spouse of Sangita Das, a fellow Trinamool Congress leader and councillor of Ward No. 1 in Bolpur Municipality.
A substantial police presence was deployed during this operation. However, the suspect, Babu Das, remains unaccounted for. As of now, no official statement has been released by the Trinamool Congress regarding this incident.
Sources indicate that the hotel owned by Babu Das is conveniently located near the Prantik railway station in Bolpur.
There are allegations claiming that crude bombs were being assembled within the hotel's premises.
Acting on credible information, a large police unit led by Bolpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rickey Agarwal arrived at the scene and executed the raid.
Authorities have detained seven individuals from the hotel for questioning in relation to the discovery of the crude bombs. Investigations are ongoing to determine their involvement and identify any additional parties connected to the event.
Police sources further noted that prior allegations of unlawful activities at the hotel have emerged, including claims of a prostitution ring operating from the site.
A senior police official commented, “We conducted the raid and discovered that crude bombs were stored on the premises. The area has been sealed off, and necessary precautions are being undertaken. The bomb disposal squad will handle the detonation. A case has been filed, and the Investigating Officer (IO) will oversee the investigation at the location. We are actively pursuing leads to ascertain who is implicated in this matter and whether others are associated with it.”
In reaction to this development, state BJP spokesperson Jagannath Chatterjee remarked, “I have been informed that the Trinamool Congress leader operated party offices from that hotel. Allegations suggest that he instilled fear in locals in this otherwise tranquil and respectable town. Complaints have been raised about his involvement in extorting money from residents.”
