Jaipur, July 29 (NationPress) In a significant move towards enhancing cybersecurity, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has successfully prevented losses exceeding Rs 5,489 crore by responding to 17.82 lakh complaints related to cybercrime through the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System.
This effort is part of a larger initiative by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), which was established by the Central government under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In response to an inquiry from MP Madan Rathore in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar detailed the notable advancements achieved in the cybercrime prevention framework.
MP Rathore highlighted that to bolster public involvement, the Home Ministry has launched a toll-free helpline 1930 dedicated to reporting cyber fraud, ensuring rapid support for online complaints.
Furthermore, a cutting-edge Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre (CFMC) has been established under I4C, which has effectively blocked over 9.42 lakh mobile SIM cards and 263,348 IMEIs linked to cyber frauds.
Under the Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children (CCPWC) Scheme, the Ministry is offering financial aid to states for setting up cyber forensic and training labs, hiring junior cyber consultants, and training law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, and judicial officers.
To date, more than 24,600 individuals have undergone training in cybercrime awareness, investigation, and forensics.
Additionally, the National Cyber Forensic Laboratory (NCFL) has been established in New Delhi, assisting in over 12,460 cases thus far. The CyTrain portal, a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform, has provided certificates to over 82,000 police officers, enhancing their digital investigation capabilities.
MP Rathore also mentioned that the Home Ministry has initiated the Sahyog Portal to facilitate the process of issuing notices to IT intermediaries regarding the removal or disabling of unlawful content or data being exploited online. These initiatives reflect the government's unwavering commitment to ensuring cyber safety, thwarting financial fraud, and safeguarding citizens in the digital realm.
