Bhopal/Raipur, Oct 29 (NationPress) As the post-monsoon season progresses into unpredictable weather trends, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) centers in Bhopal and Raipur have issued critical advisories for Madhya Pradesh (MP) and Chhattisgarh. These advisories are linked to increased rainfall and thunderstorms prompted by a combination of a lingering depression, a trough, cyclonic circulation, and the approaching Cyclonic Storm 'Montha' in the Bay of Bengal.
Forecasts from both centers indicate that the indirect impacts of Montha—alongside a depression over eastern MP and a trough extending from Jharkhand—have resulted in extensive downpours on Tuesday, affecting seven districts, including Sheopur and Morena. Although urban areas such as Bhopal and Indore saw no rain, rural regions experienced significant rainfall.
In the past 24 hours, rainfall has affected most areas in the Ujjain, Gwalior, Chambal, and Rewa divisions, with many locations in Indore and Sagar receiving rain, while some areas in Bhopal and Shahdol experienced light showers, and others remained dry.
Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are expected in isolated regions of Mandsaur, Neemuch, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Seoni, Mandla, and Balaghat.
Thunderstorms and lightning may also occur in isolated areas of Vidisha, Rajgarh, Ratlam, Agar, Anuppur, Dindori, Chhindwara, and Pandhurna.
Rain and drizzle mixed with thunder have been forecasted for several places in Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Shajapur, Agar, Guna, Ashoknagar, Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, Mauganj, Satna, Shahdol, Umaria, Katni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Panna, Damoh, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, and Maihar. Many districts such as Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dhar, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Anuppur, Dindori, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, and Balaghat are also anticipated to see heavy rainfall.
Warnings remain in effect for Sheopur, Morena, Burhanpur, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni-Mandla, Balaghat, Dindori, and Anuppur until Saturday, with similar weather expected for the next four days.
In Chhattisgarh, a red alert has been declared in Bastar as Montha brings strong winds across various parts of the state.
The Raipur center has warned of wind speeds reaching 40–60 km/h and rain over the next three days due to Montha.
Light to moderate rainfall is forecasted for many areas statewide until October 31.
Thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected in Vidarbha-Chhattisgarh until November 1. The southern tribal regions may face severe weather, with a red alert for heavy rainfall in Narayanpur, Bastar, Bijapur, Dantewada, and Sukma—potentially reaching 115 mm in 24 hours, leading to flash flood risks.
Northern districts like Raipur and Bilaspur may witness moderate rainfall (25–64 mm) accompanied by lightning. The past 24 hours have seen scattered rain in the Bastar division, while other areas remain dry. Residents are advised to steer clear of waterlogged zones and secure livestock, with farmers advised against sowing. Although Montha may weaken after landfall near Odisha, the influx of moisture continues to fuel the tumultuous weather.
