How is Haryana's Dabwali Railway Station Transforming Under the Amrit Bharat Scheme?

Sirsa, May 21 (NationPress) The Dabwali Railway Station in Haryana, which dates back to the British colonial period, has received a remarkable upgrade under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme initiated by the Modi government. With an investment of Rs 13.22 crore, the newly modernized station is set for a virtual inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, as part of a national event showcasing 103 renovated stations across 18 states.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a comprehensive, long-term strategy aimed at enhancing railway stations nationwide. It focuses on making stations more hygienic, accessible, and user-friendly, incorporating improvements in infrastructure, aesthetics, connectivity, and local economic integration.

Upgrades include executive lounges, business meeting areas, lifts, escalators, and free Wi-Fi where needed, along with enhancements to platforms, waiting areas, signage, and access roads.

At Dabwali, while maintaining the allure of its historical architecture, the station has received a contemporary makeover.

Significant enhancements consist of an air-conditioned waiting area, a VIP lounge, a new ticketing office, accessible toilets for those with disabilities, renovated entry and exit points, a porch, improved parking facilities, landscaping, and a refreshed façade.

The waiting areas have been updated with new furnishings and decorated with appealing artwork. Additionally, clean drinking water services have been ensured by the Shri Satguru Pratap Singh Jal Seva Samiti, which has been serving the station for 62 years.

Suresh Mittal, a member of the Railway Advisory Board, underscored Dabwali's historical significance.

"Around 1903, a meter gauge line was established here. In 1979, it was upgraded to broad gauge to support military movement between Bathinda and Suratgarh. Over the years, the station has gained importance, and now, through the Amrit Bharat Yojana, it has been redesigned to meet contemporary needs," he told IANS.

He also highlighted the positive effects on local businesses. "The new parking facility will significantly benefit shop owners, which was a major concern before," Mittal stated.

Auto rickshaw drivers and local merchants expressed their satisfaction with the new improvements.

"The enhancements in parking, cleanliness, and water supply have made a difference, and the rise in passenger numbers is boosting our earnings," noted an auto driver.

Another added, "Previously, parking was a major hassle, but with the renovations, our business has improved significantly."

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme not only aims to modernize India's railway stations but also emphasizes local culture, sustainable practices, and economic prospects through initiatives like One Station One Product, food courts, rooftop plazas, and children's play areas.

With the Dabwali Railway Station now standing as a fusion of history and modernity, this redevelopment reflects a wider change in India's railway infrastructure — moving towards enhanced comfort, connectivity, and an improved travel experience for everyone.
