Mumbai, Oct 28 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared on Tuesday that India will proudly host the first-ever Mumbai Climate Week (MCW) in February 2026.

Mumbai Climate Week is set to emerge as a pivotal platform for climate action within the Global South, with India poised to take a leading role. The event will gather top minds from the Global South to devise actionable solutions for pressing climate issues,” stated the Chief Minister.

He emphasized that this initiative will empower developing nations to collaborate effectively and amplify their voices on the international stage.

Alongside prominent climate specialists, the Chief Minister elaborated on the event's scope, indicating that representatives from over 30 nations are anticipated to attend.

“Participants will convene in Mumbai to formulate a viable climate action strategy, engaging with city officials, state leaders, civil society organizations, businesses, students, and youth,” he noted.

The Chief Minister further highlighted that by uniting governments, enterprises, startups, academia, civil groups, indigenous populations, and citizens, the event aspires to cultivate a shared vision.

“Through a blend of diverse expertise and practical experience, Mumbai Climate Week will contribute to a fair, sustainable, and resilient future for the Global South while enhancing its representation globally,” he remarked.

Fadnavis asserted that the event underscores India’s commitment to proactive leadership, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, as Mumbai and Maharashtra aim to foster a just and well-supported climate future for the Global South.

The inaugural Mumbai Climate Week will center around three interconnected themes: food systems, energy transition, and urban resilience.

Each theme will be scrutinized through the lenses of justice, innovation, and funding to comprehensively address climate adaptation and mitigation.

Crucially, the platform will not only gather policymakers and experts but also empower citizens and grassroots movements.

Discussions will encompass various topics, including mental health, art, spirituality, sports, and cinema, with a climate-themed food festival planned to engage the public.

In preparation for the event in February, a series of activities will focus on identifying and refining solutions for presentation, including cross-stakeholder working groups, innovation mapping, calls for applications, and workshops.

The February event will adopt a unique hub-and-spoke format, with the main gathering slated for February 17 to 19.
