Los Angeles, June 8 (NationPress) Hollywood icon Robert De Niro and actor Ben Stiller recently reunited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of ‘Meet the Parents’, alongside director Jay Roach.

This film is a comedic tale revolving around male nurse Greg Focker (played by Ben Stiller), who faces a series of hilariously awkward situations while meeting his girlfriend’s parents for the first time, according to Variety.

Robert De Niro portrays Greg's father, Jack Byrnes, a cat-enthusiast and retired CIA officer who exerts a benevolent but firm control over his family.

As reported by Variety, the trio gathered at Manhattan’s Tribeca Performing Arts Center during this year's Tribeca Festival, which was co-founded by De Niro and Jane Rosenthal in 2002.

“It’s incredibly enjoyable to hear laughter in a theater for a comedy that’s 25 years old,” Ben Stiller expressed during the Q&A session following the screening. “It still resonates with audiences.”

Despite the passage of a quarter-century since ‘Meet the Parents’, Stiller observes that audiences still connect him with Greg Focker. He humorously mentioned that he doesn’t always appreciate being called by his character’s name in public.

“When someone shouts ‘Focker!’ on the street, it doesn’t always come off as respectful,” Stiller joked. “Whenever I’m treated by a male nurse, I feel a certain connection.”

On stage, Roach reminded Stiller that he was nearly not in the film. Initially, Steven Spielberg was in talks to direct with Jim Carrey set to star. After their departure, Roach was brought on as the director, securing Stiller for the lead role.

“(Jim Carrey) was going to be me?” Stiller remarked. “Wow, I completely forgot that detail.” Meanwhile, Polo joined the cast as Stiller’s fiancée at the last moment. “It was very late in the casting phase, just days before we began shooting,” Roach reflected. “She had to step into this role with such seasoned actors.”

Point of View

I find this reunion not only a celebration of a classic film but also a testament to the enduring legacy of its stars. De Niro and Stiller's reflections on their roles highlight the film's cultural significance, and it’s clear that audiences still cherish these characters. This event serves as a reminder of the magic that cinema brings to our lives, even decades later.
