New Delhi, July 12 (NationPress) On Saturday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta deliberated on the procedures for allocating funds to 374 Kanwar committees, which have received authorization to establish camps catering to Shiva devotees making the pilgrimage on foot during the sacred month of Shravan.
Additionally, she convened a discussion with the organizing committees of Ramleelas and provided assistance for the seamless execution of the events.
Later, CM Gupta informed reporters, "Today, we held a meeting with all officials regarding the preparations for the Kanwar Yatra and discussed the forthcoming Ramleelas... This year, the government has meticulously planned every detail."
Regarding the Kanwar committees, she stated, “I am pleased to announce that 374 organizations participated, all confirmed as registered. We even aided some in registering within a single day and completing all required formalities. A single-window system was implemented, ensuring that no permission was delayed — organizations received approvals within 48 to 60 hours...”
CM Gupta presided over a high-level review meeting concerning the Kanwar Yatra at the Delhi Secretariat, attended by Cabinet Ministers Ashish Sood and Kapil Mishra.
In a post on X, CM Gupta mentioned, “Clear instructions have been provided to officials to guarantee no deficiencies in serving the devotees of Lord Shiva. This year, 374 registered Kanwar committees received permission within 48 hours through a single-window system. Each camp will be allocated 1,200 units of free electricity, simplified meter connections, and a 75 percent reduction in security deposits.”
She continued, “Arrangements for traffic, police, health, and cleanliness have been thoroughly enhanced at every level. Fifty percent of the total funding will be disbursed to the committees before the event, with the remaining amount transferred directly to their accounts via DBT.
CM Gupta emphasized, “For us, the Kanwar Yatra represents an opportunity for public service. We strive to ensure that this yatra is conducted with devotion, safety, and good governance, maintaining full dignity.”
Previously, CM Gupta announced that 20 Kanwar camps will be exclusively established for women devotees traveling on foot.
Last year, 170 Kanwar organizing committees received funding from the Delhi government.
Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, spearheading the preparations for the Kanwar festival, stated that the Delhi government is dedicated to making this year’s Kanwar Yatra grand and well-organized.
The Kanwar Yatra is one of North India’s most significant religious traditions, with millions of devotees collecting holy Ganga water from Haridwar, Gangotri, and other sacred sites to offer at Shiva temples in their hometowns.
Every year, thousands of Kanwar devotees traverse through Delhi en route to other states.
To welcome and support them, Kanwar camps are established throughout various parts of the city.
The camps provide resting areas, food, and medical services to the devotees traveling on foot along key roads.
