New Delhi, June 5 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially launched 200 electric buses in the capital city, further emphasizing the commitment of both the central and city governments to create a cleaner and greener Delhi.
In a post on X, PM Modi shared images of the event, captioning it, “Building a clean and green Delhi”.
The Prime Minister was joined by Delhi's Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during the flag-off ceremony.
He also mentioned on X, “Flagged off Electric Buses under an initiative of the Delhi Government aimed at boosting sustainable development and clean urban mobility. This will also enhance the 'Ease of Living' for the residents of Delhi.”
This initiative aligns with the newly elected BJP government's efforts, led by CM Rekha Gupta, to significantly reduce air pollution in the city and transition to a fully electrified public transport system.
The launch of these 200 electric buses coincides with World Environment Day.
Earlier, PM Modi urged citizens to intensify their efforts in protecting the planet against modern challenges, stating, “This World Environment Day, let’s deepen our efforts towards protecting our planet and overcoming the challenges we face. I also compliment all those working at the grassroots to make our environment greener and better.”
He also planted a Sindoor sapling at his official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.
Last month, CM Rekha Gupta unveiled over 400 new electric buses as part of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Initiative (DEVI) scheme, highlighting the government’s aim to establish a cleaner and sustainable public transport system.
