New Delhi, Dec 13 (NationPress) The Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, emphasized on Saturday that open dialogue and counselling can effectively address disputes before they escalate into serious conflicts. He pointed out that sensitive family issues should ideally be resolved through understanding rather than confrontation.

During the inauguration of a ‘Legal Help Service Centre’ in his Rohini Assembly constituency, Gupta highlighted that this initiative is a direct response to the urgent needs of the community.

According to the Speaker, both the Legal Help Service Centre and the existing Family Counselling Centre (FCC) will operate consistently, offering special counselling sessions every Saturday.

He noted that the environment of a police station is often not suitable for handling sensitive family matters, which can sometimes exacerbate the issues.

“When a domestic matter reaches the police, it can spiral out of control and change in nature. Platforms focused on counselling and dialogue, such as this Legal Help Service Centre, provide a more compassionate and effective solution,” Gupta stated.

Gupta mentioned that many conflicts stem from a lack of trust. “When distrust seeps into relationships, it can lead to serious and dangerous problems. Counselling aims to transform distrust into trust and impatience into understanding,” he said.

He stressed the importance of fostering tolerance and understanding within families, which is crucial for nurturing a safer and more compassionate society.

The Speaker urged the public to raise awareness about these services, allowing distressed families to seek timely assistance. “When a family disintegrates, it affects not just that family but also many interconnected lives, especially children who suffer the most,” he remarked.

This event, organized by a Delhi-based NGO, aimed to provide accessible legal guidance, family counselling, and amicable dispute resolution through community support mechanisms.

Among those present at the event were the Founder and President of NGO Sampurna, Dr. Shobha Vijender, along with Sangathan Mantri Shrihari Borikar, Sanjay, Sunita, Jitender, and various social workers, legal experts, and dignitaries.

Gupta characterized the counselling approach as a community-based resolution method, akin to a panchayat, where disputes can be settled through conversation and mutual understanding.

Referring to the tragic Nirbhaya incident of December 2012, he underscored the necessity to ensure that such horrific events are never repeated.

He articulated that these incidents highlight deep-seated social issues, particularly distrust and intolerance, which must be addressed at both community and family levels.
