Speaking at a gathering held in the Delhi Assembly to commemorate the 107th birth anniversary of Chaudhary Brahm Prakash, Verma highlighted his role as a social worker dedicated to the city's progress.
“To overlook his contributions would be a grave error,” he remarked.
“My father, Chief Minister Sahib Singh, had a statue of Chaudhary Brahm Prakash installed in the Assembly in 1997, which now serves as a focal point for anniversary celebrations,” he added.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the Outer Delhi residents who attended the ceremony, reiterating the Delhi government's willingness to name new initiatives after Chaudhary Brahm Prakash.
“Although he was not a member of our party, we have assembled here to pay our respects and remember his significant contributions. In the upcoming days, we will collaborate closely with his family to ensure that we honor his legacy,” he stated.
Earlier, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta reminisced about Chaudhary Brahm Prakash's achievements and pledged to realize his vision for both the city and its rural regions.
Gupta noted that Chaudhary Brahm Prakash became Delhi’s Chief Minister at the young age of 33, following his involvement in the independence movement and a stint in prison.
“He is remembered as a devoted social worker and one of the pioneers of Independent India,” he said.
The granddaughter of Delhi’s inaugural CM expressed her family’s aspiration for the ongoing realization of her grandfather's work.
“The vision for Delhi that my grandfather had should come to fruition, and his legacy should not be limited to history books,” she stated, thanking the Speaker for organizing the event.
During the event, arrangements were made by the Assembly Secretariat for freedom fighters to pay their tributes to the first CM of Delhi, as confirmed by an official.
Chaudhary Brahm Prakash served as the first Chief Minister of Delhi from 1952 until 1955. He also represented Delhi in Parliament and held several ministerial positions, including Minister for Food, Agriculture, Irrigation, and Cooperatives.
