New Delhi, March 15 (NationPress) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Minister Parvesh Verma paid tribute to the late Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma on his birth anniversary this Saturday.

During a prayer gathering, Verma also performed a 'havan' in memory of his father.

The occasion was marked by the presence of several leaders from the Delhi BJP, including Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Kapil Mishra, Mohan Singh Bisht, among others, who came to honor the late leader.

Sahib Singh Verma, born on March 15, 1943, into a farming family in Mundka village, Delhi, began his political career as a worker in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

He was first elected to the Delhi Municipal Corporation on a Janata Party ticket in 1977 and later became the Chief Minister of Delhi in 1996, serving for over two-and-a-half years.

While speaking at the prayer meet, CM Rekha Gupta reflected on her connection with Sahib Singh Verma and the significant influence he had on the political scene in Delhi.

"I feel privileged to carry on the work he initiated. It is our duty to propel Delhi forward from this point," she stated.

Gupta also shared a personal anecdote, recalling how Sahib Singh Verma had reached out to congratulate her upon her election as the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) President.

"Today, his daughter is the Chief Minister, and his son (Parvesh Verma) is a Minister. It could have been the other way around, but it is essentially the same. In our culture, elder sisters get precedence. We are committed to working together to realize the vision Sahib Singh Verma had for Delhi," she added.

Earlier in the day, CM Rekha Gupta expressed her tributes on X to the former Chief Minister.

"Today, we remember former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma on his birth anniversary. His contributions to the service of Delhi and the nation will always inspire us. He transformed society through his determination, hard work, and public welfare policies. His dedicated life will continue to motivate us to serve the people and work for the national interest," she posted.

Parvesh Verma, now a significant political figure in Delhi, pledged to complete his father's unfinished projects and aid in the city's progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

Verma gained recognition as a 'giant slayer' after decisively defeating AAP National Convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi Assembly seat, winning by over 4,000 votes.
