This incident in the Santipur area has raised concerns, especially during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state.
According to police sources, a significant amount of documents was being incinerated in a location under Ward No. 13 of the Santipur Municipality. Local inhabitants reported finding Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, post office papers, and bank documents among the materials being set ablaze.
Upon receiving alerts, officers from the Santipur police station promptly arrived at the scene and detained one individual connected to the event. Authorities are currently probing the reasons behind the destruction of these documents and how the detainee acquired them.
The individual in custody is being interrogated for more information, while the Santipur Municipality has also acknowledged the situation.
