New Delhi, Oct 8 (NationPress) The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has levied a penalty of Rs 20 lakh on IndiGo due to alleged shortcomings in pilot training at Category C aerodromes, as reported by the airline’s parent company, InterGlobe Aviation, to the stock exchanges on Wednesday.
The company disclosed that it received notification from the aviation authority on September 26.
The DGCA highlighted that the breach pertained to the airline's inadequate use of qualified simulators for pilot training, which is a requirement under aviation safety regulations.
“Details of violation(s)/contravention(s) alleged: Inadequate use of qualified simulators for pilot training at Category C Aerodromes,” the company stated in its filing.
In its reply, IndiGo mentioned that it is challenging the DGCA's decision with the relevant appellate authority.
The airline further indicated that this penalty will not significantly affect its financial standing, operations, or business activities.
“The Company is currently appealing this Order with the appropriate appellate body,” the airline asserted.
“There is no substantial impact on our finances, operations, or other activities,” the airline reiterated.
The airline also clarified the delay in their disclosure, citing it was unintentional due to a lag in internal communication regarding the order's details.
“The delay in communication was unintentional and stemmed from a lag in internal discussions about the order,” the low-cost carrier explained.
IndiGo's shares concluded the trading session at Rs 5,630.50, reflecting a decrease of Rs 33.50 or 0.59% on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
Earlier this year, an IndiGo flight bound for Delhi had to abort takeoff at Lucknow airport due to a technical issue, affecting over 150 passengers, including Samajwadi Party leader and Lok Sabha member Dimple Yadav.
An official statement confirmed that the incident occurred on IndiGo flight 6E2111, which was set to travel from Lucknow to Delhi.
