Bengaluru, Oct 8 (NationPress) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the high-profile Dharmasthala case is set to submit a chargesheet in court by the end of October. This follows the completion of their investigation, which included gathering evidence, recording statements, and compiling relevant documents, according to a source on Wednesday.
Sources indicate that SIT officials are preparing to file the chargesheet at a court in Belthangady by the month's conclusion.
The SIT is required to file the chargesheet within 90 days of the arrest of the complainant, referred to as the “mask man” Chinnaiah.
However, insiders suggest that the chargesheet could be submitted even earlier, by the end of October. Upon submission, the case will proceed to trial at the District Sessions Court in Mangaluru.
The investigation into the alleged mass murder case has progressed to its final stage, with reports indicating that no substantial evidence has been found linking temple authorities to the serious accusations of mass killings of women, girls, and the elderly over the past ten years.
The imprisoned complainant, Chinnaiah, previously presented a skull to authorities and the court to bolster his claims.
After a thorough excavation operation in Dharmasthala, Chinnaiah was arrested for allegedly misleading both the police and the judiciary. The SIT may also take action against activists and YouTubers who led the campaign against the temple authorities.
In the meantime, Sujata Bhat, one of the complainants who alleged her daughter was murdered, expressed that she had been misled throughout the situation. She intends to visit the pilgrimage site at Dharmasthala to offer an apology.
She further stated her plans to meet Dharmadhikari and BJP Rajya Sabha member Veerendra Heggade to seek forgiveness, and will soon visit Dharmasthala to pray to Lord Manjunatha.
Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parameshwara recently mentioned that it is impractical to demand the SIT to submit its report on the alleged Dharmasthala mass murder case within a set timeframe.
Parameshwara stated: "We have merely requested the SIT to accelerate the investigation into the alleged Dharmasthala murder case. It is not feasible to impose a fixed deadline on them for the report."
On July 11, Chinnaiah, who claimed he was coerced into burying multiple bodies of women who were raped and murdered in Dharmasthala village, appeared in court in Mangaluru district, where he recorded his statement. He submitted his testimony under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) before Principal Civil Judge and First Class Judicial Magistrate Sandesh K.
Accompanied by a team of lawyers and police, he entered the courtroom with his face concealed. This incident sparked considerable controversy. He requested that the police exhume the bodies in his presence, and also sought protection for himself and his family.
Furthermore, he alleged that the bodies of the women displayed clear signs of sexual assault, being found unclothed and bearing injuries indicative of violence. These revelations have sent shockwaves through the state.
A retired Supreme Court judge and various activists have called for a SIT investigation to be supervised by either the Supreme Court or the High Court, concerning the shocking murders involving numerous women and others.
