Did SIT Submit the Dharmasthala Case Report to K’taka Government?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Belagavi, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the Dharmasthala case has presented its findings to the Karnataka government on Wednesday.
The SIT has already submitted a preliminary chargesheet to a local court located in the Mangaluru district.
Reports indicate that the findings exonerate the temple management, suggesting that the complainant, in conjunction with some activists, orchestrated a conspiracy against the temple officials.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar mentioned that he has yet to review the details within the chargesheet.
“The government will take any necessary legal action. In the end, the truth has emerged. This conspiracy stemmed from significant disagreements between the BJP and the RSS,” he stated.
The SIT has filed a comprehensive 3,900-page chargesheet against Chinnaiah, known as the 'mask man,' who is the complainant in this case, along with several activists including Mahesh Shetty Thimarody, Girish Mattennavar, T. Jayanth, and Vittala Gowda. Additionally, Sujatha Bhat has also been named, and they face charges of providing false evidence, forgery, and other offenses under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
On May 5, 2025, the Supreme Court dismissed a public interest litigation filed by Chinnaiah seeking an investigation into the burial of numerous bodies in Dharmasthala village from 1995 to 2014.
In a significant turn of events, on July 11, Chinnaiah—initially an unidentified complainant—testified in a court in the Mangaluru district, claiming he was compelled to bury the remains of women and girls who were allegedly raped and murdered in Dharmasthala.
He urged for the bodies to be exhumed in his presence, asserting that they exhibited evident signs of sexual assault. According to him, these bodies were uncovered without clothing and bore injuries indicative of violent sexual abuse.
These disclosures have profoundly shocked the state of Karnataka.
Following his allegations, a former Supreme Court judge and various activists have called for a Supreme Court or High Court-overseen SIT investigation into the purported Dharmasthala murders, potentially involving the deaths of numerous women, girls, and vulnerable men.
