Bengaluru, Sep 26 (NationPress) The BJP's Karnataka unit has raised serious concerns regarding the Dharmasthala case, alleging that the Congress-led state government has accepted a complaint against temple authorities while intentionally ignoring the Supreme Court's directive on the matter.
BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra expressed on Thursday: "The Congress-led government in Karnataka is enabling a calculated conspiracy to disseminate organized propaganda against the Hindu religious and spiritual center, 'Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala,' aiming to tarnish the shrine's reputation. It has now come to light that the government accepted a complaint from the so-called 'skull gang' and established a Special Investigation Team (SIT), while deliberately overlooking the Supreme Court’s order.
Vijayendra further stated: "The Supreme Court had dismissed the public interest petition filed by the skull gang on May 5, 2025. However, by suppressing this information, the government acted on a complaint rooted in a fabricated narrative and, yielding to pressure from radical leftist ideologues, proceeded to form the SIT. This represents a blatant violation of the Supreme Court’s ruling.
"The Supreme Court dismissed the petition as 'not in public interest, but driven by publicity, financial gain, private malice, and political vendetta,' exposing those attempting to orchestrate a conspiracy," Vijayendra noted.
He demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwara promptly apologize to the Supreme Court. Furthermore, they should acknowledge their involvement in the conspiracy against Dharmasthala and seek forgiveness from the state's citizens, Vijayendra asserted.
"We have consistently maintained this claim of conspiracy, and even Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has recognized it. In light of this organized scheme, we continue to call for an NIA investigation into the Dharmasthala matter. The BJP will persist in its efforts until those responsible for this conspiracy are brought to justice," he added.
Vijayendra has also circulated the Supreme Court's order, stating, "Labeling this writ petition as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) tarnishes its noble purpose. It is not a true PIL but can also be characterized as 'Publicity Interest Litigation,' 'Financial Interest Litigation,' 'Private Interest Litigation,' or 'Political Interest Litigation.'"
This development is anticipated to ignite significant controversy within the state. The petitioners, while lodging complaints with the police and filing a petition before the magistrate court in Belthangady, have allegedly concealed this critical development from authorities. Following the complaint, the Karnataka government initiated an SIT and conducted extensive excavations of purported burial sites. This led to heated discussions on social media, resulting in arguments and counterarguments, and taking on a communal tone.
The SIT authorities, who shielded complainant Chinnaiah, also known as the 'mask man,' presented a skull to the authorities, claiming he had buried thousands of deceased women, girls, children, and elders in Dharmasthala. He alleged that the bodies of women and girls displayed clear signs of sexual assault.
Subsequently, the SIT arrested Chinnaiah for allegedly misleading the investigation. He is currently held in Shivamogga prison and has recorded a new statement before the local court.
