Naihat (West Bengal), April 26 (NationPress) After clinching the I-League 2 2024-25 season title, Diamond Harbour made history by completing the season unbeaten, earning the prestigious title of Invincibles.
DHFC secured this remarkable title with a 0-0 draw against Bengaluru United at the Naihati Bankimanjali Stadium on Saturday. The team from West Bengal finished the season with 11 wins and 5 draws in 16 matches and aims to continue this momentum in the upcoming I-League 2025-26 season following their promotion.
Despite this historic achievement, the club has decided to postpone their celebrations. The victory march, which was set for Sunday to honor their I-League 2 title win and promotion, has been put on hold.
This decision comes after a tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that resulted in the loss of at least 26 lives and numerous injuries. DHFC’s Chief Patron, Abhishek Banerjee, announced the indefinite postponement of the event as a gesture of respect for the victims.
DHFC made history by securing the championship with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Chanmari FC at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl, thanks to an 85th-minute goal by Rabi Mandi, which came from a stunning cross from the left wing.
With their position in the I-League confirmed, Diamond Harbour FC joins an elite group of West Bengal clubs in the national league, alongside the renowned East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, and Mohammedan Sporting, all of which have transitioned to the Indian Super League.
Previously, Diamond Harbour FC won the I-League 3 title, which allowed them to qualify for I-League 2, and they are looking forward to making the leap to India’s premier division, the Indian Super League, in the future.
