Bhopal, June 15 (NationPress) Senior Congress figure and ex-Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh has issued a statement regarding the expulsion of his younger brother and former MLA Laxman Singh from the party due to "anti-party activities".
Attending a party event in Gwalior, Digvijaya remarked on Saturday that he fully supports the Congress' decision.
He expressed his disagreement with Laxman Singh's criticisms aimed at the Congress leadership and Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition.
"Laxman Singh is my younger brother, and we will always be brothers, but his comments regarding the party and its leaders do not reflect my views. We are siblings, yet we refrain from discussing political matters. I accept the Congress party's resolution," Digvijaya Singh mentioned while interacting with the press in Gwalior.
On Wednesday, the Congress officially expelled Laxman Singh from its primary membership for six years due to his remarks against Rahul Gandhi.
In response to his expulsion, Laxman Singh claimed he was dismissed for not expressing support for Rahul Gandhi.
"I received a call asking me to submit a written statement declaring Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister; only then would my expulsion be reconsidered. I declined," Laxman Singh stated during a media briefing on Friday.
He further added, "Since I refused to comply, I was expelled from the party. Only those who proclaim Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister are allowed in the Congress. I cannot do that."
Laxman Singh, who had joined the BJP in late 2003 and contested for the Rajgarh Lok Sabha seat in the 2004 elections, asserted, "I will neither join the BJP nor will they accept me."
He has been critical of the Congress since losing the Chachoura seat in the 2023 state Assembly elections.
His criticisms have ranged from personal attacks on Rahul Gandhi to questioning the party's electoral strategies and its response to the Pahalgam terror attack and the boycott of the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony.
Earlier, a show cause notice was issued to Laxman Singh following his comments on remarks made by Rahul Gandhi and brother-in-law Robert Vadra regarding the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, where he stated: "Rahul Gandhi and Robert Vadra are immature. The nation is bearing the brunt of their immaturity... How long will the Congress tolerate (this) immaturity?"
