New Delhi, Oct 19 (NationPress) In a pointed remark directed at Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated on Sunday that those who previously ridiculed faith and left the streets of Ayodhya stained with the blood of Ram devotees and Kar sevaks are now disturbed by the glow of over 26 lakh lamps.
CM Yogi elaborated that "these lamps, crafted by local Prajapati and potter communities, not only represent devotion but also create employment opportunities, something the 'Ram-haters' struggle to accept."
The Chief Minister made these statements during the coronation ceremony of Lord Ram at Ramkatha Park, where he honored respected saints linked to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
His comments followed a major political uproar triggered by Yadav’s remarks questioning the necessity of spending substantial amounts on illuminating diyas and candles during Diwali.
Yadav stated, "Globally, cities are adorned with beautiful lights during Christmas, and this festive illumination can last for months. We should draw inspiration from this. Why spend money on diyas and candles, and overthink the process? We need to rethink our expectations from the government; perhaps it should be revamped. We will ensure that future lights are even more stunning."
This statement incited fierce backlash from numerous BJP leaders, who accused him of "disrespecting Hindu traditions" and showing "disdain for Indian culture."
BJP national spokesperson and MP Sudhanshu Trivedi remarked, "The entire nation is celebrating Diwali with joy and happiness, particularly after the reduction in GST. Yet, Akhilesh Yadav's claim that he sees an issue with Diwali lamps is utterly condemnable."
"This stems from the same mindset that the INDIA bloc seeks to eliminate Sanatan Dharma, or the same ideology that Rahul Gandhi adheres to when he claims, 'Hinduism is powerful, and I must combat it.' This reveals their distaste for Indian culture and the light of Hinduism," he stated.
"Why do you (Akhilesh Yadav) want to take this away from them? It's evident that the INDIA bloc's mindset is shrouded in darkness, and in the illumination of Diwali lamps, it becomes clear how much they detest Indian culture and Hindu customs," he added.
Likewise, several leaders from the BJP have entered the fray to criticize the former CM, and this issue is poised to intensify as the Bihar elections approach.
