DMK's State Conference in Tiruchy on March 9: Boosting Political Energy
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tiruchy (Tamil Nadu), March 7 (NationPress) The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is preparing for its 12th State Conference at Siruganur, located near Tiruchy, scheduled for March 9. Party officials believe this event will significantly energize the cadres ahead of the upcoming state elections.
Preparations are in full swing at the vast venue, covering nearly 20 lakh square feet, with party flags, banners, and welcoming arches adorning the pathways leading to Siruganur.
This extensive mobilization underscores the importance that the ruling party places on this gathering, expected to draw cadres from every corner of Tamil Nadu.
According to police officials, comprehensive arrangements have been established to manage crowd control and traffic flow.
Initial estimates suggest that approximately 24,000 vehicles are anticipated to arrive at the venue on conference day. Consequently, authorities have devised special traffic diversion strategies in and around Tiruchy to avert congestion and ensure a smooth transit of vehicles.
DMK principal secretary and senior minister K.N. Nehru, who evaluated the venue last Friday, informed reporters on Saturday that the party anticipates around 10 lakh cadres and supporters to participate in the event on March 9.
He emphasized that the conference would serve as a pivotal platform to bolster party unity and mobilize workers for the political challenges that lie ahead.
Highlighting the significance of the previous conference held at the same location in 2021, Nehru pointed out that it played a critical role in revitalizing the party base before the Assembly elections. During that gathering, DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who was the party's chief ministerial candidate then, presented a long-term vision for the development of Tamil Nadu.
Party leaders are hopeful that similar significant announcements or policy directions might be unveiled by the Chief Minister during the DMK event on March 9, adding to the political relevance of the conference.
This conference is also projected to enhance the party's presence in central Tamil Nadu and the Cauvery delta region, which were vital for the DMK's success in the 2021 Assembly election, where the party won 37 out of 41 constituencies in these areas, including all nine constituencies in Tiruchy district.
Long-time party member and three-time councillor T. Durgadevi noted that conferences held in Tiruchy have historically attracted large numbers of cadres. “From the era of Kalaignar to Stalin’s leadership today, Tiruchy conferences have consistently drawn significant participation. In previous years, these conferences lasted two days, with supporters traveling from across the state,” she remarked.
