Chennai, Aug 9 (IANS) More than 1.5 lakh people are anticipated to converge at Madurai's Parapatti on August 21 for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) second state conference, which is expected to be one of the party's most significant political gatherings to date.
This conference is taking place ten months after TVK's inaugural state conference at Vikkaravandi in October 2024, which signified the party's formal initiation into large-scale political engagement.
The event is projected to attract 1.2 lakh men, 25,000 women, 4,500 senior citizens, and 500 individuals with disabilities from all over Tamil Nadu.
TVK has announced that children and pregnant women will not be allowed at the gathering.
Volunteers from each district will head to Madurai, with an estimated 3,600 participants, including men, women, and the elderly, arriving via vans, buses, cars, and two-wheelers.
A grand 200-foot-long and 60-foot-wide stage is currently under construction for the conference, along with a separate platform situated 800 feet away for party leader Vijay to engage with attendees.
The program is set to occur from 3:15 p.m. to 7 p.m. Prior to granting permission, police posed 42 questions to the organizers, requesting clarifications regarding arrangements and safety protocols.
TVK has reportedly provided comprehensive responses to all inquiries. Organizers are making extensive arrangements, including 1.5 lakh chairs, over 100 water tanks, 400 temporary toilets, more than 50 LED screens, strategically placed CCTV cameras, 420 loudspeakers, and 20,000 lights.
Volunteers will not receive passes, and 18 designated entry and exit routes have been planned to facilitate smooth movement. In case of medical emergencies, TVK has requested assistance from the state Health Department for ambulance services and government medical teams, while private doctors and medical supplies will also be on standby. At least 12 emergency lanes will remain unobstructed for fire safety and rescue operations.
The conference will commence with the hoisting of the party flag, the Tamil Thai Vazhthu (state invocation), an oath-taking ceremony, a policy document song, and the passing of resolutions, culminating in Vijay’s keynote address.
Notably, no other major leader will address the event, and in an unusual departure from tradition, there will be no reception for Vijay upon his arrival at Madurai airport before heading to the venue.
