Chennai, Aug 21 (NationPress) With the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections just around the corner, political factions are intensifying their preparations, particularly the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) steered by actor-turned-politician Vijay.
The party is preparing for its inaugural significant electoral challenge by hosting its second state conference in Madurai today, featuring extensive arrangements. This grand occasion is being held at a vast 506-acre venue located at Parapathi along the Madurai-Thoothukudi National Highway.
This event follows last year's first state convention near Vikravandi in the Villupuram district.
The stage and venue have been meticulously crafted to reflect the party’s ambitions, showcasing large cut-outs of C.N. Annadurai, M.G. Ramachandran, and Vijay prominently beneath the slogan “The history of voters returns.”
Seating has been arranged for nearly two lakh volunteers, featuring a specially constructed 300-metre ramp walkway, allowing them to gain a closer view of their leader. Over 40 spotlights have been positioned along the ramp, while more than 200 high-powered tower lights will illuminate the entire area.
Special amenities have been implemented to set this conference apart from typical political events.
A comprehensive underground water supply system spanning 8,000 metres has been installed, along with multiple tanks to ensure a steady supply of drinking water.
Sufficient parking arrangements have also been established to accommodate the substantial crowds.
Security measures have been heightened to an unprecedented level. A two-tier system has been set up, with bouncers comprising the first line and police forming the second. Around 550 bouncers, including 50 women, are deployed alongside 2,000 private security personnel and 3,000 police officers.
Preparations encountered a minor setback on Wednesday when a crane lifting a 100-foot flagpole malfunctioned, causing it to fall onto a parked vehicle, resulting in damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Vijay, arriving in Madurai from Chennai in the evening, inspected the site, reviewed arrangements with local authorities, and directed party members to ensure that volunteers faced no challenges.
With thousands of supporters already present in Madurai, this conference represents a pivotal moment in Vijay’s political journey as TVK strives to establish its footprint in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
