Mumbai, March 17 (NationPress) A 17-year-old resident from Dubai, who was visiting Mumbai, has been implicated in a tragic road incident in the Chandivli region. The police reported that the rental SUV he was operating collided with a scooter, resulting in the death of a 15-year-old pillion rider on Tuesday. Following the accident, the minor attempted to escape the scene but was located within a few hours and subsequently presented before the Juvenile Justice Board.

According to authorities, the minor arrived in Mumbai for the Eid holidays and was residing in the city when the unfortunate event took place on Sunday night in the Chandivli area.

Law enforcement stated that the teenager was driving a rented SUV belonging to a friend when it struck a scooter carrying two minors. The collision was fatal for the pillion rider, identified as Pratik Mane, aged 15.

The scooter was struck while navigating through the neighborhood, leading to severe injuries for the pillion passenger, who later tragically passed away.

After the crash, the driver reportedly fled the site. However, the police acted swiftly on the information available, conducting a search operation that successfully located him within hours.

The minor was detained and brought before the Juvenile Justice Board, which mandated his placement in a correctional or juvenile reform home until March 27.

During the investigation, authorities discovered attempts to mislead police regarding the minor's location.

As per officers from Sakinaka Police Station, the accused's family initially claimed he had left the area and traveled to Mira Road post-accident. However, police later found him hiding at a relative's home within the Chandivli vicinity.

Officials are also probing the circumstances surrounding the rental of the vehicle involved in the accident.

In connection with this incident, police have issued a notice to the youth's friend, Mohammed Anas Moharmali Khan (22), who rented the SUV for a single day.

Authorities are scrutinizing Khan's involvement in the incident, particularly regarding whether the vehicle was entrusted to a minor unauthorized to drive.

The police indicated that further actions will depend on the findings from the ongoing investigation.

In a separate case, police in New Delhi have filed a chargesheet related to a different fatal accident involving a minor driver in the Dwarka area.

This chargesheet pertains to an incident that took place last month in Dwarka Sector 11, where a 23-year-old man, Sahil Dhaneshra, lost his life after being struck by a car allegedly driven by a minor.

According to investigators, the minor driver in this case lacked a valid driving license and was driving the vehicle recklessly at the time of the accident.

The police stated that Sahil Dhaneshra suffered fatal injuries after being hit by the car on February 3, leading to his death and triggering a criminal investigation.

Officials noted that the chargesheet has been filed in the Dwarka case, and legal proceedings will continue based on the evidence gathered during the investigation.
