New Delhi, Oct 22 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) commenced its two-day Conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) at the India International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi, aimed at evaluating the national readiness for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The gathering, led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, saw the participation of Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
The core objective of this session was to gauge the preparedness of all State and Union Territory CEO offices for the essential SIR exercise, which is vital for ensuring the precision and inclusivity of India’s voter lists.
This conference is a continuation of a similar preparedness review that occurred on September 10, 2025, during which all States and UTs shared comprehensive data on electors, qualifying dates, and the current state of electoral rolls based on the last completed revision.
The ECI stated, "This Conference serves as a follow-up to the SIR preparedness meeting held on September 10, 2025, where all States and UTs provided detailed accounts of the number of Electors, the qualifying date of the last SIR, and the Electoral Roll in their respective regions based on the last completed SIR."
The Commission reviewed the advancements made since then and requested updates on the execution of its prior directives.
An important aspect of the agenda was to analyze the progress in aligning current electors with those recorded during the last SIR, facilitating the identification of new voters, deletions, and necessary corrections.
The Commission emphasized, "We are assessing the progress made on the previous directives issued to the CEOs for mapping current electors with the last SIR records in each State/UT."
The ECI also evaluated the status of the appointment and training of field-level officials, including District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant EROs (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and Booth Level Agents (BLAs).
This conference aims to harmonize processes, enhance coordination across states, and guarantee that every eligible citizen is registered before the forthcoming election cycle.
