New Delhi, Oct 23 (NationPress) The Election Commission of India (ECI) successfully wrapped up a two-day conference involving Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) at the India International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi on Thursday. The poll panel also engaged in one-on-one discussions with the CEOs of the poll-bound states and Union Territories, namely Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and West Bengal.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar led the conference, accompanied by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
The primary aim of this session was to evaluate the preparedness of all State and Union Territory CEO offices for the crucial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, which is essential for maintaining the accuracy and inclusiveness of India’s voter lists.
This conference follows a similar review conducted on September 10 this year, where all states and UTs provided comprehensive data on electors, qualifying dates, and the status of electoral rolls from the last completed revision.
CEOs from various states and UTs across the country participated in this important gathering.
“The Commission instructed the CEOs to finalize their preparations for the Special Intensive Revision in their respective regions,” stated the poll panel in its press release.
After presentations by senior officials regarding the SIR process, queries raised by the CEOs were promptly addressed.
“The Commission evaluated the advancements made in response to earlier directives issued to CEOs for mapping current electors with the voters based on the last SIR in the respective regions,” it added.
Additionally, the poll panel engaged in personal discussions with the CEOs of the aforementioned states and UTs.
Earlier, the ECI had also reviewed the status of appointments and training for field-level personnel, including District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant EROs (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and Booth Level Agents (BLAs).
The conference aimed to standardize processes, enhance coordination across states, and ensure that every eligible citizen is effectively enrolled before the upcoming election cycle.
